New Orleans (AP) – A single engined plane ditched in the Gulf of Mexico about 200 miles northweest of Campeche, Mexico, last night and the Coast Guard reported both occupants on good condition.

The Cessna 206 Super Skywagon, owned by Wings of Hope, St. Louis, landed at sea about 6 o’clock alongside the German cargo ship, Nabstein.

Both the plane and the two men on board were plucked from the gulf by the freighter, the Coast Guard reported. The passengers were identified as S. Gervais, described only as a Canadian; and T. Dwyer, identified as a U.S. citizen.

Authorities said the plane was on the way from New Orleans to Belize, British Honduras, when it was forced to ditch. The freighter will carry the plane and crew to Tampico, Mexico.
